The mission of Sand Stew, Inc. is to provide educational, social and cultural programs, activities, and events that assist recovering alcoholics and addicts, in any stage of sobriety, their families and peers, understand, affirm, maintain, and celebrate a substance free life.
Our annual Labor Day weekend festival known as SOBER IN THE SUN is the flagship offering that provides a drug and alcohol-free family camping experience filled with music, food, vendors, workshops, children & teen events, and sporting activities.
The our flagship event, SOBER IN THE SUN, began 33 years ago. The founding four members planned the first festival on a paper napkin in just three weeks. They paid out of pocket for everything, lost their shirts, and loved every minute of it. Patrons loved it and requested another one the next year. They hesitated for a few months but then began planning the next year's event. It wasn't until several years later did they finally break even, but the event became a hit. The organization became incorporated in 1991 and its current name, Sand Stew, Inc., followed a few years later. SOBER IN THE SUN remains our flagship event but other events have been added throughout the years including the Poker Run, motorcycle ride, open mic events, dances, dinners, movie nights and more.
